![]() ONE HAND CLAPPING By Chris Ryall 2009-03-09 - TV Recommendations TV RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE WEEK BEGINNING MARCH 9, 2009:MONDAY, MARCH 9 DANCING WITH THE STARS -- 8 PM, ABC (Season Premiere!) Never a good sign when Nancy O'Dell and Jewel drop out of the show right before the premiere, but at least their leg injuries ring a bit more true as excuses than, say, mercury poisoning. Even if they're just as likely fabricated. HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER -- 8:30 PM, CBS Laura Prepon from THAT '70S SHOW guests tonight. Hey, at least this week, there's one female actress on this show who the producers won't have to find a way to work around a pregnancy that hasn't been written into the show. HEROES -- 9 PM, NBC Lex Luthor's dad on SMALLVILLE joins up here as Sylar's dad. Which tells me one thing -- this guy should really stop breeding. TUESDAY, MARCH 10 JEOPARDY! -- 7:30 PM, NBC It's not Celebrity Jeopardy week but since it's Sweeps now, that means you get Liz Perkins, Aisha Tyler, and Tom Bergeron, which is at least 2/3 Celebrity Jeopardy. HOW THE EARTH WAS MADE -- 9 PM, History I think it'd be fun to see a Darwin fan and a creationist do the MST3K thing during this documentary. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11 LOST -- 9 PM, ABC I know not everyone agrees but the constant time-shifting and moving island has just really helped this show quickly go off the rails for me. Which doesn't mean I'm not hanging in, just that where this show's headed no longer seems like a place I need to be. GHOST HUNTERS -- 9 PM, Sci Fi (Season Premiere!) This season premiere picks up where last year's finale left off, which is ... the same as where every episode leaves off, with ghosts having been hunted but never caught, seen, recorded or heard conclusively. SOUTH PARK -- 10 PM, Comedy (Season Premiere!) The show enters its 13th season tonight, and while it may be too dated to mention now, Christian Bale might still want to avoid this season, just to be safe. JIMMY FALLON -- 12:35 AM, NBC Russell Brand guests tonight, which means at least one person on the show tonight will be funny. No offense (well, not much) to Fallon, but so far the only thing this show has to offer is a more public forum for the Roots. THURSDAY, MARCH 12 30 ROCK -- 9:30 PM, NBC I don't know how a HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS joke could not only work so well but also take over a full episode like it did last week, but it's hard not to just implicitly trust a show that could pull that off. E.R. -- 10 PM, NBC The cavalcade of previous stars of the show is going to get a bit annoying by the time Clooney stops by at the end, but for now Eric LaSalle is next up to try to bring those lost viewers back. FRIDAY, MARCH 13 WIFE SWAP -- 8 PM, ABC It's the 100th episode, and tonight a MUFON type gets foisted onto another woman than his wife. Of course, she's a psychic, so both have proven the exception to the rule that nutty UFOlogists or psychics never get married. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA -- 10 PM, Sci Fi Savor 'em while you can, people. The end is almost here. SATURDAY, MARCH 14 WILL FERRELL: YOU'RE WELCOME, AMERICA -- 9 PM, HBO The Bush is back. And I'm sure this is funny, and I will in fact watch it (or at least record it and then skim through it at some point) but it's actually been a nice change the past month or so to look ahead and not back. SUNDAY, MARCH 15 KINGS -- 8 PM, NBC NBC borrows an actor -- Ian McShane -- and a format -- the limited series -- from pay cable, but I doubt they end up with the results they were after. AU PAIR 3 -- 8 PM, ABC This is a sequel eight years after part 2, and about as timely and necessary as the second sequel to THE GODFATHER. All listings are Pacific Standard Time and all opinions would rather see Tracy Morgan on 30 ROCK than SNL but has both available as options this week. |
