THE COMICS 101 POP QUIZ STRIKES BACK

By the time you read this, I’ll be smack-dab in the middle of the full-tilt insanity that is Comic-Con International: San Diego. Which means two things for you, faithful COMICS 101 readers:

1. – I should have some interesting stories and sights to share in the next few weeks, which I’ll endeavor to bring in at least one Comic-Con wrap-up…

2. – Another week of slightly less content from your humble professor, as there’s just not time enough for anything more substantive.

Anyway, in lieu of an actual column this week, I’ve decided to once again offer you, the reader, the chance to teach me a little something with another of our “Comics 101 Trivia Extravaganzas.” The same rules apply as last time, naturally. Since it is all about applied knowledge, all of the answers to these questions can be found in the Comics 101 and Mail Shoot Archives. The first person to correctly answer all 25 questions will claim the grand prize, and if no one gets them all, then the entry to answer the most correct the earliest will be declared the winner. Anyone is eligible to enter, including Poop Shoot contributors and the winners of the first Pop Quiz – here’s your chance to hold on to the crown, fellas.

What’s the prize this time? Well, here’s the fun part: I’m leaving that up to you: the winner can choose any of the currently available and in-print hardcover collections from either the DC Comics Archives or the Marvel Masterworks series. If it’s available for order through Diamond Distributing, it’s heading to your doorstep. Wanna read about the Golden Age JSA? The classic Lee/Kirby Fantastic Four? Will Eisner’s SPIRIT? You make the call, gentle reader. You can’t beat that with a stick.

Entries will only be accepted as soon as this column goes live on July 13 (or maybe the evening of July 12, depending on the whim of our editor-in-chief), and will be accepted until the new column goes live the following week, July 20.

Everybody ready? Good luck, and let’s begin:

1. What action-figure body mold was reused by the 1970s toy company Mego to create the “Thing” action figure?

24. Swamp Thing and Man-Thing weren’t the first swamp monsters in comics. Name the original.
